Introducing the “Ambient Mix Asphalt” Process

Blue Line is proud to present our latest technology known as “Ambient Mix Asphalt”. Ambient Mix Asphalt (AMA) is an emerging green technology comprising of several cold-mix processes. All of the AMA processes utilize Earthbind® products. Presently, the AMA technology includes Stabilized Full Depth Reclamation, Ex Situ Aggregate Base Stabilization, Cold In-Place Recycling, and the Alternative Paving process. Following is a short overview of each of the AMA processes. These include:

  • Stabilized Full Depth Reclamation (SFDR)
    • Stabilized Full Depth Reclamation is a rehabilitation method in which the full thickness of the asphalt pavement and a portion of underlying materials (base and/or subbase) is pulverized and blended with a predetermined amount of Earthbind® solution, to provide an upgraded, stabilized homogeneous material. The SFDR method is for stabilization and is not considered to be paving. 
  • Ex Situ Aggregate Base Stabilization Process (EABS)
    • The Ex Situ Aggregate Base Stabilization is the process when excavated or raw material is thoroughly mixed with a predetermined amount of Earthbind® solution in a Pugmill. Then the blended material is then transported to the site in trucks and constructed into a new base using a paving machine. This process is typically done relatively close to the project location. The EABS methods is a base stabilization method and not considered paving. 
  • Cold In-Place Recycling (CIR)
    • Cold In-place recycling is a rehabilitation technique in which the existing pavement materials are recycled and reused in place…for the construction of a restored pavement layer. The CIR method allows for materials to be mixed in-place without the application of heat. The Ambient Mix Asphalt CIR method usually involves milling the top few inches (usually 3 to 5 inches) of the paved surface, mixing the pulverized RAP with a pre-determined amount of Earthbind® EBS-RA, and placing it back down with a paver. The AMA CIR method uses 100% of RAP generated and does not incorporate any of the underlying base or subbase. The AMA CIR can be considered to be a paving method.
  • Alternative Paving (EBAP)
    • Earthbind® Alternative Paving is a method in which either RAP and/or aggregate, is thoroughly mixed with a pre-determined amount of Earthbind EBS-RA solution in a Pugmill. The blended material is then transported to the site in trucks and constructed into a new paving layer using a paving machine. The EBAP method is an ex-situ method and is not done “in-place”. The EBAP method is a paving method and not considered to be a stabilization method.
